Nationals/Imaging USA

We try at Lucas Photography to attend photography conventions throughout the year to keep us educated. We attend classes and learn from other top photographers on what has worked for them and what is the newest products and how they work.

Megan and I traveled to Phoenix to our National Professional Photographers of America Convention where 6 to 10,000 photographers attended. So much information and so little time. We had a blast.

I also picked up three awards and a Photographic Craftsman Degree while being there. The first award was for having the top scoring print in our Regional (Missouri, Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska). The second was being named Photographer of the Year. The third was having an album ranked in the top ten albums in the country and having the top senior album in the country. It was a good year.
Here are a few images from the trip.

Beautiful downtown Phoenix!

Megan and I at my first awards banquet.

Receiving the ASP Regional Elite Award for having the top scoring print.

Megan and I had to stop by the booth of our wonderful lab Millers Professional Imaging in the tradeshow. It was great to talk with all of the Millers staff that made the trip. They are always so helpful with any questions and friendly to work with. Thanks Arnie, Lisa, Debra, Julie, Marsha, Brian and Ted.

Just before I received my Photographic Craftsman degree.

Anne Geddes received a Lifetime Achievement in Photography award.

It was very cool to hear someone like her talk about her passion for photography.

With one of my best friends Layton Powell.

Talking with a photographer that I so much respect, Martha Dameron.

Just having fun at the awards party!

One of my best friends, Dave Swoboda. Dave has been my mentor since 2003. Dave is the one that has criticized my photography work and made me work harder. I have loved and hated him in the same moment. He is the one that has changed my photography and the way I see art forever.
Thanks Dave.

The four of us.

MacKenna - Footprints Collection

I just photographed the prettiest niece alive. MacKenna is my only niece. We photographed her three month session of the Footprints Collection. What a beautiful smile! She is wearing a dress that was worn by her mother.

South Haven, Michigan

My family traveled to Michigan just after Christmas to see Megan's family. Every trip we make up north I try and take a picture of a lighthouse on Lake Michigan. This time we visited the South Haven Lighthouse. I expected it to be a bit chilly but the wind coming off the water was absolutely freezing. This had to be the coldest photo shoot I have ever done. I wish these images described how bitter cold it really was. Anyway, it was well worth it to get these images. Click on any image to enlarge.

This is Mark, one of Megan's cousins. He is standing on a cliff of ice that had a 10 ft. drop off with the waves crashing all around him. CRAZY! He was soaked after this wave but now he has a great facebook picture! I think this image looks like a National Geographic picture.
